Originally hailing from California, John Etsell is a collaborative pianist based in Ann Arbor, MI. Having worked both in the U.S. and abroad, his approach to music remains rooted in creativity, intuition, and passionate engagement. An advocate of non-canonic and under appreciated repertoire, Etsell has devoted himself to projects such as performances of the complete solo piano works of Leoš Janáček, a recording of Adolphus Hailstork’s American Guernica with the Nevada Wind Ensemble, and recitals of African American art song on the poetry of Langston Hughes. John maintains versatility of both instrument and genre, having worked as a harpsichordist, organist, and improviser. His study of opera and art song has led to his summer position as assistant vocal coach at the Brancaleoni International Music Festival in Piobbico, Italy. In the chamber music realm, he is thrilled to be a member of the Detroit- based Lumino trio. For more information, please visit www.johnetsell.com |
